Tony the Balloon Guy

As a professional fortune teller, I feel I have a duty to my friends and other readers of this blog: to tell you who will win the Super Bowl on Sunday…

Ordinarily, I do upbeat, fun readings with Tarot cards, runes and/or palms, but today I’m going to just go with the old clairvoyant method of getting an image of the game in my mind and seeing who wins.

I’m keeping my eyes open, so I can still type while I’m “seeing” the winner.

OK, I see something. It’s… it’s a Patriots emblem. And a Giants emblem now. And I see the Super Bowl logo. Looks like the right game.

And the winner?

I’m sensing…

The Giants!

The Giant’s win!

It’s a close one, but I see the Giants pulling it off.

Looks like the final score is 17 to 10. No, even closer. Maybe 17 to 14.

URGENT AUTHOR’S NOTE: After I  published this, I received notes from readers to inform me that 17-14 was the score of the 2008 Super Bowl, which also featured the Giants and the Patriots. I may have been seeing the PAST instead of the FUTURE – please do not wager any money based on my prediction!!! The newly-six-year-old girl didn’t want a super-giant birthday hat at the restaurant, so I (Tony the Balloon Guy) spent  ten minutes or so making her a super-giant birthday puppy instead. She and her family LOVED it.

A little while later, I slipped off my balloon apron, left it in a booth at the back of the restaurant, and went to the kitchen to get a soda.

On my way back to my balloons, I saw the birthday girl sitting with Face Painter Phyllis. I stopped and sang the happy-birthday song, finishing up, “… happy birthday, dear Amelia, happy birthday to you!”

Amelia stared at me a few moments, and finally asked, “Who ARE you???”

Because I wasn’t wearing my balloons!

I told her I was the balloon guy, and we laughed. When I had my balloons back on and saw her a little while later back with her family, she exclaimed, “You ARE the balloon guy!”

Maybe that Clark Kent/Superman glasses thing isn’t so crazy after all.

On the other hand, if I wear my old beat-up clothes to make a quick run to the grocery store, unshaven and looking my worst, sure enough there will always be some kid to say, “Look, Mom, it’s the balloon guy!!!”

Maybe it’s because Amelia had JUST met me, while some of those other kids have seen me over and over at restaurants, birthday parties and other events.

Funny, anyway.

Getting into the spirit of saying ridiculous things for fun, like I (Tony the Balloon Guy) had been doing while I made his family balloon animals at the restaurant, the little boy told me that he ate a teddy bear for lunch.

Walking through the park, Face Painter Phyllis and I (Tony the Balloon Guy) saw about half a dozen teens-to-twenties playing Dagorhir, a Medieval (literally) game, shooting arrows and beating each other with padded clubs.

The other day, Face Painter Phyllis took a call from a mom who wanted to book me (Tony the Balloon Guy) for her son’s birthday party. That’s how our business goes – we book birthday parties and other events.
