At a birthday party, someone asked what I (Tony the Balloon Guy) was making out of balloons.
I said it was going to be a clown.
One of the grown-ups declared, “Clowns aren’t made… they’re INSPIRED!”
I have friends who are clowns who would agree with that.
And I always seem to run into retired professional clowns (”I used to make balloon animals, too, but not at your level!”) who seem to have been very inspired.
As for me?
When people call or write about booking us (Tony the Balloon Guy and Face Painter Phyllis) for a party, grand opening or other company event, church event, school event, etc., now and then one will ask if we do or can work as clowns.
We always tell them that we are clowns in spirit – the way Buster Keaton was a clown or Robin Williams is a clown, but we don’t DRESS as clowns. That’s just our preference, and we find it’s also the preference of a lot of tentative little children!
Basically, laughs and antics, yes; red nose and Halloween costume, no.
Have a fun day!
