We All Scream

Tuesday, July 27th, 2010

Our new every-Monday-night gig is a mom-and-pop ice cream shop called Lickity Splits, at 1858 West County Road 48, in Bushnell.  Face Painter Phyllis and I (Tony the Balloon Guy) are there 7-9pm.  Their kids night is balloon entertainment, face painting, and a free kid cone!

This is in Sumter County, so not a good replacement for our West Hernando friends who used to see us on Monday nights.  But we’re still at Golden Corral on Wednesdays!  And we still have our other weekly appearances in Ridge Manor, Wesley Chapel, and Trinity.

Days and times are at the website.

We’re looking forward to making lots of new friends from Sumter, eastern Citrus, and northwestern Hernando Counties!

Have a fun day!

Psychic Face Painter

Monday, July 5th, 2010

The Tampa Yankees game was rained out on the 3rd of July, but the bounce houses were still up, the fireworks were still scheduled, and Face Painter Phyllis was still painting faces.

As one little girl had an occassional shiver, Phyllis asked, “Are you cold?”

“A little,” the girl said.

Then quiet as the painting continued.

Then a suspicious “Hey…” from the girl. “How did YOU know I was cold???”

Happy 4th!

Saturday, July 3rd, 2010

For the first time since 2003, I (Tony the Balloon Guy) am not walking ponies or twisting balloons on the 4th of July.

Don’t get me wrong – I love my work – but I feel so…

FREE!

Always On Stage

Friday, July 2nd, 2010

I’m trying to keep track of my three in a sea of wheel-footed kids on the wooden rink, when an unrecognized 6-year-old girl rolls up to my bench and jabs her finger at my sternum.

“Balloon man!” she demands over the music. “Watch me skate!”

It Was Mutual!

Friday, July 2nd, 2010

“Tony – Just wanted to say thank you for coming to our library a couple weeks ago. It was a great kick-off to our summer programming. We had over 150 kids plus parents and it was a great time for everyone. We even used the balloon animals you left in other programs as decoration. Thanks again.”

Be Careful Who You Ask

Thursday, July 1st, 2010

As I (Tony the Balloon Guy) am making balloon stuff, I overhear a guy ask another guy if it hurts to get a tattoo.

No, the 2nd guys says, it doesn’t hurt.

After a moment, I ask, “Wait a minute. Is that true? It doesn’t hurt AT ALL???”

“I dunno,” the 2nd guy says. “I never got a tattoo.”

Same Time Next Year

Thursday, July 1st, 2010

A Pennsylvania family visits Grandma in Florida one week each summer, and I (Tony the Balloon Guy) make balloons for them.

The restaurant where they originally found me four or five years ago isn’t a client any more, but the family has kept up with me.

It was great to see them again last night at Golden Corral.

Wow… I’m a tradition!!!

Check It Out

Thursday, July 1st, 2010

I (Tony the Balloon Guy) have really enjoyed doing balloon stage shows this summer at libraries in Largo, Tarpon Springs, Brooksville and Spring Hill. I get to be my regular silly self for 45-minutes, promote reading, and make really BIG balloon sculptures!

I’ve done shows at summer camps and churches before, but I’m really glad I finally got around to working in libraries, after playing with the idea for a few years. Thanks to former Library Lady Stacey, Current Library Lady Mary, and John the Kentucky Magician for their help and encouragement along the way!

I have a couple more shows in Hernando County before the summer is over. Contact me for info or check with the Hernando County Public Library System.

Have a fun day!
