Many Happy Returns

Saturday, February 28th, 2009

Thanks so much to the Rotary Club for having me (Tony the Balloon Guy) back to their annual Family Night for the third year in a row. Always a pleasure!

Likewise, it was great to be at the Hernando County Reading Festival for the third year in a row. Wow, that is a job! Have to stick to my fastest balloons, because the line is a mile long, and Mrs. Balloon Guy (Phyllis) is helping out, working as quick as I am! Not a great showcase for parties, since I don’t get to do my fancy balloons, but we love being part of the Reading Festival – ’cause we are pro-READING! Phyllis did build a quick balloon arch over us at the beginning – we looked good! And my mom always likes it when I’m mentioned in the paper.

You should read something today. Oh, wait… you ARE!

For Your Entertainment

Saturday, February 28th, 2009

At the Pasco County Fair, I (Tony the Balloon Guy) hurt my hand on a balloon (AGAIN!), much to the laughter of the children in line.

“WHY IS THAT FUNNY?” I demanded. “I know it IS funny, but WHY is my pain so funny to children???”

“To be fair,” one dad piped up, “it’s funny to adults, too.”

Welcome to Best Buy

Saturday, February 28th, 2009

Thursday night the brand new Best Buy store in Spring Hill held an invitation-only grand opening. We provided the entertainment, and also the balloon decor.

By decor, I mean Phyllis and I (Tony the Balloon Guy) built a ten-foot-high arch out of yellow and blue balloons. The Best Buy folks rolled out a red carpet from the door to the arch. Fun! We took some pictures, and will put them on the website soon.

After we built the arch, Phyllis (the face painter) played Balloon Lady, and our friend Amanda (the pony walker) played face painter at Best Buy while I did my regular Thursday-night balloon thing down at Anthony’s Italian Restaurant in Trinity. Busy!

Anyway, I guess my point is, if you’re having a grand opening or a wedding or a baby shower or anything where you need some decorating done, you should check with us. We’ve done balloon decor for birthday parties and weddings, we’re talking to a few car dealerships about keeping them decorated, and we’ll be doing a high school prom in April.

What can we decorate for you?

Time for the Fair

Wednesday, February 11th, 2009

Although I (Tony the Balloon Guy) have worked the Hernando County Fair the last three years, this is my first year at the Pasco County Fair. I’ll be there Monday the 16th, then Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Come see me! And all the other fun stuff.

Don’t Call Him Smokey

Wednesday, February 11th, 2009

Tonight at Golden Corral, I (Tony the Balloon Guy) recognized our county sheriff. So I made a little teddy bear for him. A brown bear with a green tummy, the color of the department’s uniform. Gave him black bubble eyes for sunglasses. Phyllis (the face painter) had some little stickers that were stars, like a teacher would put on your good paper, so she put a gold star on the bear’s chest.

I carried the critter over to the gentleman and his wife. “Howdy, Sheriff!” I said, like a cowboy might. He laughed. I gave him the deputy bear. He laughed again. Said he like it.

Didn’t get a picture of the two of them together, but I have one somewhere of a county commissioner with one of my balloon flowers.

You’re never too big to play with balloons.

Yay! It’s the Balloon Guy!

Wednesday, February 11th, 2009

A few weeks ago, I (Tony the Balloon Guy) stopped by one of my old regular restaurants on the weekend. I still pop in sometimes for a few hours and pass out some business cards, make some tip money, and see old regulars and staff.

When I walked in the kitchen to get a soda, the ladies back there exclaimed, “We were so glad when you came in!”

Turns out there was something wrong, and things were backed up, and folks were starting to complain.

“But when you’re here, no one complains,” they told me. “They’re too busy watching you!”

I’ve heard this before at restaurants. Car dealerships, too. Most recently, one of the folks at the dealership Phyllis (the face painter) and I have been doing a couple Saturdays a month, said she wished they could have us there all three days of their special events, instead of just the one, because, again, no one complains where there are fun things to watch.

And at birthday parties, someone will always say, “I think the grown-ups are having as much fun as the kids. And they’re just watching!”

There’s something entertaining about balloons, especially done in a silly way. Face painting, too – and it doesn’t even have to be silly.

I’m sure there are other types of businesses that could use funny folks to distract people who are waiting. Maybe you know of one you could tell about us. Or maybe you own one that could use us.

Something to think about.

Have a great day!
